8551 - Jack Daniel's Lynchburg Chess set. Highly-detailed, 32 sculpted and painted pieces complimented by a top-quality wooden board branded with the Jack Daniel's logo. KING: Jack Daniel was born in 1850 and he learned to make whiskey at an early age. By the time he was 16 years old, his distillery had become the first to be registered by the United States government. His Tennessee Whiskey is now enjoyed in more than 135 countries. QUEEN: One of the earliest names given to Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey was "Belle of Lincoln". Lynchburg was once a part of Lincoln County and Mr. Jack had earned a reputation of being quite the "ladies man". The distillery released a commemorative Belle of Lincoln decanter in the 1970's. BISHOP: Corn is the dominant grain used in making Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey, accounting for anywhere from 51 to 88 percent of the raw ingredients used. The corn is shipped to Lynchburg from farms in Illinois and Indiana. The other grains used to make Jack Daniel's are rye and barley malt. KNIGHT: When Jack Daniel had trouble opening the distillery's safe one morning in 1905, he gave it a good kick out of frustration. Unfortunately, the injury to his toe became serious and got progressively worse. Gangrene eventually set in and six years after the original incident, Mr. Jack Daniel died. ROOK: It could be said that the charcoal-mellowing processs that Jack Daniel's uses begins with a rick of hard sugar maple wood. A rick is carefully burned to make the charcoal that will be placed in vats. Jack Daniel's is filtered through these charcoal-mellowing vats before going into the aging warehouses. PAWN: A bottle of Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 is recognized throughout the world by it's black and white label and its unique square shape. Jack Daniel decided on using a square bottle in 1895 after a salesman with Illinois Alton Glass Company showed him the design. Black Label came along around 1911. Board doubles as a carrying case for the pieces. Dimensions: 15-1/2"W x 15-1/2"D x 2-1/4"H. Gift boxed. (*** Shipping will be $12.50 ***)
