Center Ice details the distinctive heritage of ice hockey. This stein captures, in detailed relief, the thrill of the game from its beginnings in the 1860s to the professional teams of today. The middle has the logo and the right side 1994. The ceramic insert in the lid has an outline of the Stanley Cup trophy and Stanley Cup Championship 1994 below. NYR94 - 1997 Mark Messier lidded stein. This 8" lidded stein was made in The Kingdom of Thailand by CUI, Inc. Issued to commemorate the brilliant career of Mark Messier. 1st drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in 1979, where he stayed until 1991. Then continued playing for the New York Rangers from 1991 until 1997. During his career his teams won the Stanley Cup Championship 5 times. Four times with the Edmonton Oilers (1983-84), (1984-85), (1986-87), (1987-88), and once with New York Rangers (1993-94). Stein features Mark in motion as he played with the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers and starting with the Vancouver Canucks in 1997. (He went on to play with them until 2000, then went back to the New York Rangers from 2000 until 2004). He is recognized as one of the greatest captains and team leaders of all time. He guaranteed a win against the New Jersey Devils in Game 6 in the 1994 NHL Eastern Conference final and they did. Messier ended up scoring a hat trick in the third period and went on to beat New Jersey and win their 1st (New York Rangers) Stanley Cup since 1940. The ceramic insert in the lid features his # 11.
